March 13, 2014—Audi AG and Bosch Automotive Service Solutions have entered into a licensing agreement to allow Bosch access to Audi Event Data Recorder (EDR) system information.
EDR access will be used to communicate with Audi passenger vehicles via the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) tool, used to analyze and understand vehicle behavior before and during crashes.
Bosch’s CDR is used by law enforcement, accident investigators and insurance companies to retrieve EDR information from vehicles produced by several automakers.
Auto manufacturers of passenger cars and light trucks that store EDR information are required to comply with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) federal regulation that requires manufacturers to ensure that the availability of a tool to read out EDR information within 90 days of the first sale of a vehicle into the U.S. market.
“Adding Audi vehicles to our list of supported vehicle manufacturers further expands our support to the government, the automotive industry and the other related industries that rely on EDR information.” said Bernd Heppner, vice president of Bosch Automotive Service Solutions.

Any word on how long it will take before we will be able to read an Audi EDR? If not does anyone have a point of contact at Audi we can contact to get one read? Also will there be data even without an airbag deployment? This is possible a high speed crash.
