Crash test dummies were used Monday in violent accidents staged at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The Collision Safety Institute sponsored the event that included members of the Metropolitan Police Department and accident investigators from around the world to explore different technology to determine the extent of crashes and the impact they have on both drivers and passengers.

Representatives of insurance companies and auto makers also were on hand as seven crashes under varying circumstances were staged.



The teams reconstructed accidents, then collected data such as speed, force and impact that they will independently review and present during a conference Thursday.

The different agencies share information they hope will improve vehicles to better protect passengers.
