Accessing EDR data for liability determination

Post by Hastings »

Hello, I have a 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid that was recently rear ended and pushed into the vehicle in front of me, severely damaging both the front and rear of my car. The 18 year old kid that hit me is now claiming that I first hit the car in front of me, and that he then hit me afterward. The driver in front of me that I was pushed into didn't see what happened, all she knows is that my car hit her. At this point it sounds like the insurance company is buying kids version of the story and not mine. This will make me liable for the damage to the vehicle in front of me, and cause my rates to go up! I called the body shop (Caliber Collision) and my Toyota dealer about getting the EDR data out of my vehicle to prove my version of the story (i.e., rear end collision first, followed by front collision), but neither of them had ever heard of an EDR before, and they don't know how to get the data out. Is there anyone who can give me some advice on how to retrieve the EDR data from my vehicle?

Mr. Hastings,

Body shops and dealers have very limited knowledge, if any, when it comes to EDR data.

The EDR data from a 2012 Toyota Camry is accessed using the Bosch CDR Tool. You need to find an expert, someone with training, on the Bosch CDR Tool.

The best place to start looking would be http://www.edrexperts.com and search for an expert in your state.

Where are you (the vehicle) located?

Thanks Kent, that's the conclusion I'd come to as well. I went to www.edrexperts.com and contacted several local EDR data extraction and analysis specialists for assistance in this matter.
