2021 Ford Edge deployment with no event stored

Post by kwelshwe »

Hello,

I just performed a D2M imaging (with adapter 387) of a 2021 Ford Edge that was involved in an intersection collision wherein the front of the Ford engaged the side of another passenger vehicle. The battery was destroyed and the engine compartment fuse panel was disrupted. Although there was deployment of frontal and right side airbags, there was no event data stored. In the "Event(s) recovered" location in the top table, the following was reported:
  • Frontal Acceleration Threshold Exceeded
  • Shutdown Request Threshold Exceeded Level 2
Has anyone seen these messages before, and does anyone have an explanation as to why the event was not stored?

Thanks for any insight,

Kevin

The names of events are selected by the OEM and are not regulated by 49CFR563. Ford has a variety of event names they use and it appears that they have started listing what we might call the "event starting trigger name" rather than something that seems to be akin to what was commanded or done. So, if there's no other event NAME, that's not entirely unusual. As to no other data, given your description, it would most likely be a function of no power left to record data once it ended the event(s) and started the "EDR function."
