LEXUS 17EDR Ignition Cycle vs Trip Count

Post by Dchtao »

Hi All,

I would like to know if anyone of you have encountered the Ignition Cycle, download (times) is a few less than the Trip Count (times) in the collision?

Other than the slight difference in the Ignition Cycle, download (times) and the Trip Count (times), the odometer reading, the Trip Count (time) and the other data matched very well with the physical evidence at scene and the record of the car camera video.

Regards,

Tao

Yes.

The trip count reported in the vehicle control history is almost always observed to be different than the ignition cycle count reported in the EDR report.

Evidently, there are separate counters for ignition cycles and trips.

We will check our readings to see if this situation has occurred in our readouts.

There are three possibilities:
1. a fault in the Bosch CDR software
2. a bug in the software of the airbag controller
3. eeprom modification (unlikely)

If you want to send me the whole Hex (copy -> paste from the final section of the *.pdf of CDR readout).
We will check what is the reason

No, as Bob Anderson correctly pointed out, trip count and ignition cycles are simply two different counters from two different sources. This is not a bug or problem with the Bosch software nor is it a problem with the ACM software or firmware. A more complete explanation can be found in this thread: "2019 Toyota File - Ignition Cycle v Trip Count" and at the overlapping thread at "Questions regarding 17EDR data"

Hey Rusty, sorry to bring up an old post. I’m currently doing research for a case with similar issues but can’t seem to access the link you attached without permission from an administrator. Do you have any reference material you can refer that can explain the difference between these two?

Hi William:
You needed to be verified. That's been done. You should have access.
