EDR Event During Park

EDR Event During Park

Good Morning,

I am working an investigation which involved a 2021 Dodge Charger. The Dodge struck a curb and damaged a rim. The driver stopped the vehicle, blocking the traffic lane. We believe the driver may have placed the vehicle in park and leaved the vehicle ON.

The Dodge was subsequently impacted on the left side by a Ford traveling at a high rate of speed. The imaged data of the Dodge showed no event. Is anyone aware, will the Dodge record an event if the vehicle is in Park? I see pre-crash data will report drive status, but I have not seen a report with a vehicle in Park.

If you pull up to an intersection and put the vehicle in park, before you get blasted by another vehicle, for example, you would expect the safety system to do what it was designed to do, even with the transmission in park. There is no reason the ACM should check the transmission gear selection before recording an event that qualifies for recording or deploying safety devices to protect the occupants, if the impact is sufficient to warrant deployments.
